چکیده

Results. Twenty women required a second bolus of oxytocin 5 u. Both the first and the second doses produced clinically and statistically significant haemodynamic changes, but the haemodynamic changes induced by the second dose were smaller than after the first dose. The mean maximal change in CO after the first and second doses were 94% (CI 70–117) and 42% (CI 33–52), respectively (P,0.0001), and for systolic arterial pressure 31% (CI 27–35) and 23% (CI 20–27), respectively (P1⁄40.003).

Haemodynamic effects of repeated doses of oxytocin during Caesarean delivery in healthy parturients.

BACKGROUND The haemodynamic effects of oxytocin 5 u have been described previously, but still some authors attribute these effects to the delivery itself. We studied the haemodynamic effects of two repeated doses of oxytocin i.v. in 20 healthy women during spinal anaesthesia for Caesarean delivery. METHODS Data were obtained from a randomized controlled study of 80 pregnant women undergoing a...

Early versus delayed oxytocin augmentation in nulliparous women with prolonged labour--a randomised controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE To study the effects of early versus delayed oxytocin augmentation on the obstetrical and neonatal outcome in nulliparous women with spontaneous but prolonged labour. DESIGN Randomised controlled study. SETTING Two delivery units in Sweden. POPULATION Healthy nulliparous women with normal pregnancies, spontaneous onset of active labour, a cervical dilatation of 4-9 cm and no pro...

Prediction of scar integrity and vaginal birth after caesarean delivery.

A statistically significant association with uterine rupture during a trial of labour after caesarean delivery was found in at least two studies for the following variables: inter-delivery interval (higher risk with short interval), birth weight (higher risk if 4000 g or over), induction of labour (higher risk), oxytocin dose (higher risk with higher doses), and previous vaginal delivery (lower...

Effect of sublingual Misoprostol in combination with oxytocin in reducing blood loss during and after cesarean delivery: a randomized clinical trial

Background: One of the main causes of maternal death in developing countries is postpartum hemorrhage. Cesarean section is one of the most common surgeries all around the world. In comparison with normal vaginal delivery, cesarean section is a greater risk factor for postpartum hemorrhage and need for blood transfusion. The risk of postpartum hemorrhage will increase when other risk factors suc...

Haemodynamic Effects of Oxytocin as Intravenous Bolus or Infusion on Women Undergoing Caesarean Section

Oxytocin is commonly used in obstetric practice as uterotonic drug for induction and augmentation of labour (1) and remains the drug of choice for facilitating uterine contractions during vaginal and operative delivery (2). Several regimens of oxytocin have been tested during cesarean delivery (CD) with variable wanted (uterotonic) and unwanted (cardiovascular) effects (3-7). When given as a ra...
